So, every week I’m going to start featuring a Superfood Shoutout on one of the many amazing and life changing super foods out in the big old world of whole foods nutrition.
As you can see from the picture, today is all about lemons! What do you do when life hands you a lemon? Read below to find out!
Superfood Shoutout: The Lemon
If the only time you consume lemons is in a glass of overly sweet, sugar laden lemonade or a tart and tangy, vodka infused lemon drop, you are seriously missing out!
The Goods: Lemons have strong antibacterial, antiviral and immune boosting powers and are an incredible digestive aid and liver cleanser. These little yellow guys have so many healthy nutrients, notably citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, and limonene–which promote immunity and fight infection.
Also known to help clear up acne, because of the antibacterial components of the citric acid, by adding a small amount of fresh lemon juice to your pimple in the evening, it helps kill off the bacteria that causes the breakouts.
A few other known benefits: helps relieve anxiety, fights canker sores, alleviates fever, fights fatigue, and the list goes one!
How to get more of it: Start your morning off right but skipping on the caffeine and instead, incorporating fresh squeeze lemon into some warm water, not only waking you up but getting your digestion started off on the right foot at well! Or, how about squeezing fresh lemon on top of your salad greens for a tangy twist?
Do you love adding lemon in your diet? What are some of the things you do to incorporate our bright immune supporting yellow friends?
